August 14, 1924 - November 25, 2020

Jack went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 25, 2020 at the age of 96 at his home in Lake Havasu City. He was born on Aug 14, 1924 in Adams County, Iowa to Merritt E. and Edna E. (Homan) Dillon. Jack graduated from Corning High school (Iowa), then took up Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University, but was enlisted in the Air Force Cadet Program after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On Aug. 6 & 9, 1945, Jack served as a co-pilot of a B-29 bomber, 1 of 12, that flew as decoys to draw off the Japanese Kamikaze pilots so that the plane carrying the atomic bomb can target over Nagasaki & Hiroshima. On Aug. 14, 1945, Jack was 1 of the B-29 bombers who saturated Japan with 1025 B-29’s until Emperor Hirohito unconditionally surrendered. Jack flew 26 combat & 6 post-war humanitarian missions to Japan and retired as major after 30 years of service. Jack tremendously enjoyed being a member of the Gideon International, which included trips to the mountains of Cebu (Philippines) while he was living there and distributing Bibles to school children. When he came back to the States, he also did many volunteer work with SOWERS (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready), an organization that assists other non-profit Christian ministries as well as with the Wycliffe Associates, an organization that supports missionaries who translate Bibles to various native languages. Jack is survived by his wife of 27 years, Conchita, sons Mark (Shirley) and Brian (Carol) Dillon, stepchildren David (Jennifer) Tan, Joy (Joseph) Wong and James (Carla) Tan, grandchildren and great grandchildren, niece (Susan) Brentwall, nephews Randy & Ron Brentwall and cousins Dick & Evie Dwigan.
