Charles Victor Marquez January 12, 1930 - February 7, 2021 Our favorite Marine, our dad Charlie Marquez (Gunny) joined his wife and our mom, Dolores, his mom Felicitas, our brother Charlie, their dog Katie, and his beloved brothers and sisters in heaven on SuperBowl LV Sunday, February 7th, 2021. Charlie was born in Ventura to Felicitas and Carlos Marquez. He grew up with his eleven siblings, and attended Holy Cross School, Ventura High, and Ventura College. He worked at the Ventura Theater as an usher before joining the military. Our dad enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 18 and married the love of his life, Dolores Blackorby, on September 6th, 1953 at Mission San Buenaventura. Charlie served during the Korean War, and the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired after twenty-one years and afterward worked for the USPS for twenty-one years. Charlie and Dolores were parents to three boys and three girls and attended many sports and school events over the years. After raising their children, Dad and Mom retired to Lake Tahoe but soon traded the snow for the “Havasu Heat.” Dad enjoyed having lunch at the lake with Mom, traveling with her in their motorhome, doing genealogy research at the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City, Utah with Mom, playing horseshoes, coaching little league baseball, watching the D-Backs and Cardinals games, spending time with his Marine Corps League family, and eating ice cream with cookies. Thank you to the Marine Corps League for being like a family to our parents, Michelle and Heather at Printing Plus, Debbie, her sons and staff at Born’s Sandwiches, and Paradise Yogurt for being our parents’ home away from home. Dad is already missed by his children and grandchildren: Debi Marquez (daughter Julie), Vicki Hughart (Brian, Collin, Russell), Chrissi Busby (Alton, Tim Bottorff, Teela Bottorff, Tamara Camp, Tommy Busby), John Marquez (Cindie, Mason, Maddie), and Steven Marquez (Aleta, Nathan, Aidan), and fourteen adored great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and two brothers. Semper Fi, Dad. We will see you and Mom again one day.
